Our whole school has recently been involved in piloting the 'daily mile'. P2 have been enjoying this new initiative and the children even like to sing Christmas songs whilst completing their laps of the school playground. Weather permitting, as well as getting outdoor exercise, it has been refreshing to catch some fresh air to keep our minds active for learning.

Letters to Santa
The children have been super excited in class, as Christmas fast approaches. For our writing lesson this week, the children enjoyed writing and sharing their all important letters to Santa. Every child shared that they had been very good this year and are confident that they are on Santa's NICE list! Some items on the children's list included a sea turtle, a ferrari, a helicopter and a jet pack ... no pressure Santa! ;)

Painting
We took it in turns to paint something for our latest wall display in the lunch hall. Mrs Morrison allowed us to use fancy metallic paints :) We took our time with different sized paint brushes to ensure that we did the best job we could! Any guesses as to what it is we have been painting? We'll give you a little clue...Under the Sea.

Self and peer assessment
The children are becoming increasingly independent at assessing their writing. As well as reading through and checking their own writing, the boys and girls have been enjoying sharing their writing with peers and providing feedback. Today the children highlighted the different connectives that they managed to include in their news. Fantastic work P2!

Christmas Crafts
We have been as busy as Santa's Elves for the past week, working on our crafts for the school's Christmas Fair. We hope our parents and relatives will like the finished products. Have a fun day at the fair everyone!
Keeping fit in the classroom
Cosmic Yoga has been a huge hit with the children in P2 :) The children enjoy telling a story through movement, as well as using different body parts to demonstrate various stretching techniques.
Today's story was STAR WARS. At one point we had a classroom full of Darth Vaders!
Dental Hygiene
The boys and girls have been enjoying keeping their beautiful teeth clean by brushing after lunchtime. The children, in groups, take turns to use the sink area and already are quite the experts! Keep up the excellent work P2!

Butterfly Symmetry
In
class, we have been learning all about symmetry. We can now identify
symmetrical shapes and patterns. Mrs McCrum set us a challenge to create
symmetrical butterfly wings. This is us working on our individual butterflies.
How are we doing? Check out our finished display!

Road Safety Walkabout
As part of our Health and Well-being focus, Mr Renfrew has been teaching the children all about road safety. Before the weather changed, we all went for a walkabout within our local area to look at and discuss safe places to cross the road. The boys and girls were very observant and shared their knowledge of keeping safe whilst crossing roads with each other.

Sea Life Aquarium Trip
P2 recently enjoyed a fun filled educational trip to the Sea Life Aquarium in Loch Lomond. The boys and girls observed a huge variety of sea creatures and even had the opportunity to touch some anemones! They were over the moon to discover that this is where Nemo and his family live.
Check out the various sea creatures we were able to see and learn lots of new facts about.
Remembrance Day Artwork
In preparation for Remembrance Day, the children used only their fingers and some paint to create beautiful poppy fields. I think they all did an amazing job and other members of staff have commented on how effective they look. Well done P2!

Welcome back 2015/2016
Welcome to Primary 2!
Our teacher this year is Mrs McCrum & our classroom assistant is Mrs Morrison.
Our gym days are Mondays and Tuesdays. It is important that we remember to bring our gym kits on those days.
We have had a fun but hard working start to P2. Our topic for this term is Under the Sea we have been learning about lots of animals who live here. Ask us how fish manage to breathe under water! We are really hoping that Mrs McCrum will take us on a class trip before Christmas ;)
In mathematics, we are learning all about numbers up to 100. We can identify numbers before, after and between. We have also been practising skip counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. In class, we try out different strategies to help us with our mental maths. We will also be working on addition and subtraction, shape and symmetry.
Our science focus for this term is Energy In Our Lives. Already, we can name at least two different types of energy! We can also suggest ways to save energy in our homes and at school.
